Muscatine Christian Academy bases our Philosophy of Education on the foundation that God is the source of all truth and knowledge; and the inerrant Word of God (the Bible) is the means by which God instructs us in His truth.

Our Philosophy of Education answers the following questions:

  • Does it matter if we educate our children from a Biblical perspective or a secular one?
  • Why do we educate our children?
  • How should we educate our children?

The purpose of all education (whether from a secular perspective or Biblical perspective) is to study the world around us and learn how to interact in and with that world. God created the world for His own glory and to reveal Himself to all humanity [Romans 1:20; Colossians 1:16; Nehemiah 9:6; Job 12:7-10]. Therefore, the purpose of education is to study the world and the reason for its existence, and to reveal God to humanity. Since God is the source of all truth, then education without Christ at its center is incomplete and insufficient to best prepare the next generation for a life of spiritual flourishing. “He [Jesus Christ] is before all things, and in him all things hold together” – Colossians 1:17

Teaching the whole truth of God matters; therefore, educating our children from a Biblical perspective matters. Muscatine Christian Academy educates learners through the lens of Scripture (the source of truth) to teach the next generationto know God and make Him known

WHY DO WE EDUCATE?

We first educate to know God. Knowing God begins with the foundation that God is…

  • The Creator - the originator of all things (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3).
  • The Sustainer - by His presence and authority the world is held together (Colossians 1:17; Psalm 36:5).
  • Our Redeemer - by Christ’s death and resurrection humanity is restored relationally to God and each other (Galatians 4:4-5; John 13:34; 2 Corinthians 5:17-19).
  • Our Renewer - all of creation is awaiting the ultimate and final restoration when all will be made new (Revelation 21:1-5).

Education helps know God in the following ways. By studying the various academic subjects through the lens of Scripture we learn that God is complex, logical, reliable and consistent (Math). We learn that God is orderly, creative and purposeful (Science). We learn that God is writing the story of humanity and we have a place in that story (History).

Secondly, we educate to make God known. By knowing God, we can then love God [Deuteronomy 6:5 and Matthew 22:37] and make Him known to the world in the person of Jesus Christ [1 Peter 2:9]. Every follower of Christ is called to actively participate in the work of Christ and be sub-creators in our world for God’s glory and the good of others [Ephesians 5:1-2].

Therefore, Muscatine Christian Academy instructs the learner in more than what is simply necessary for their vocation. We also instruct each learner in their responsibility to steward God’s creation well, live in a way that reflects God’s goodness to all people, and advance the gospel of Christ.

Muscatine Christian Academy is not self-existent. We are accountable to the local body of believers and do not serve as a substitute for active participation in a local church. We actively seek to be useful to our community. We share the hope we have in Christ through our love for one another and in being prepared to give an answer for that hope.

Education helps us make God known in the following ways. By studying Language Arts we learn about the beauty and power of language that God has given us, and how we are to use our words for good and the furtherance of the gospel. By studying Music and Art we learn that God has gifted every human with beautiful and diverse gifts to be used in worshiping Him and pointing others to Christ.
